The European Youth Press is partnering with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to cover the campaign GreenUp, that will be launched next month in Brussels. The campaign will be leading up the the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (“Rio+20”) which will take place in Rio de Janiero, Brazil between 4-6 June 2012. GreenUp intends to raise awareness on the urgent need for greener societies & economies by suggesting 10 concrete actions related to 10 key sectors. Europeans will be encouraged to GreenUp their regions and to share information on individual projects and events on our interactive web platform. The 10 sectors are: Forestry – Waste management –Agriculture –Transport – Tourism – Water – Energy – Industry – Buildings – Fisheries.
UNEP will also launch an online platform where young journalists could contribute materials about these topics. The materials should focus on the impact UN funded programmes have on people's lives when it comes to greening up. Now, we need to give the UNEP names of young journalists that want to be involved in producing some materials. For the start there is an opportunity to actually be paid for articles accompanied by at least 15 high-resolution pictures. Possible themes of these articles include: renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, sustainable agriculture, water, etc. The stories should feature specific and concrete initiatives or projects with tangible results. They can highlight work being done by Governments, NGOs and other partners, if the UN is supporting these efforts. Hopefully the journalist would interview those carrying out the project or initiative, as well as people whose lives have been positively impacted by the work. The remuneration would be US$0.50 per word (photos included) as per UN policy.
