An internship with one of our overseas projects offers you the opportunity to gain up to six months' practical experience in development cooperation and find out what working in the field on a daily basis in another country is really like.

During your placement you will be provided with extensive support and assigned a mentor but when we award internships in foreign countries, we also ensure that our interns are able to make a useful contribution to the work going on there and that they organize their stay in the country themselves to a large extent.

Framework conditions
Our internships last for a maximum of six months. You don't need to worry about finding accommodation in the project country, as this will be provided for you by Welthungerhilfe. In addition, we pay a monthly allowance of 200 euros.
You are responsible for procuring a visa for the country you would like to work in, although we will of course help you with this and supply you with any documents you require, such as an internship contract. Welthungerhilfe will reimburse you for the cost of the visa.
As an intern you are essentially responsible for organizing your stay yourself and will bear any expenses connected with this. The main costs will be your flights and, because we don't offer group policies for interns, international health insurance including emergency assistance, as well as accident insurance.

The projects / countries
It is possible to apply for an internship in any project countries, that are generally classified as stable.
The following project countries are marked as high risk countries and can therefore not be applied for: Afghanistan, Burundi, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Iraq, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Pakistan, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Turkey.

Please note that unfortunately, information is not available for publication on every project / country. You can be sure, however, that all offices mentioned on our website are currently implementing projects, even if in some cases the corresponding project descriptions are not published.
You should be aware that internships abroad are meant to provide a general overview of the work in development cooperation. Even if in a certain country a project is implemented which is of particular interest to you, it cannot be guaranteed that you will be mainly working on that project in your internship. Considering that the internship is limited to a relatively short period of a maximum of 6 months, it may very well occur that during the course of your internship you do not get any access to that project at all, e.g. due to traveling restrictions for political or climatic reasons or because the project has reached its final phase. You should therefore choose a country that you are generally interested in and describe your particular areas of interest in your letter of motivation.
In any case, you can gather very interesting experience in any of our projects. In principle, the projects are related to the following issues, while the focus may vary from case to case:

The possibility of an internship in one of our offices always depends on the current workload in the offices and the qualifications and expectations of the applicant. Normally, we do not have specific descriptions and/or timeframes/deadlines for the internships (if not separately mentioned).
Please use the information on our website to gather information about the projects in the different countries to see if the projects there fit your expectations. More detailed information going beyond what is described on the Welthungerhilfe website can only be provided once a particular office wishes to offer you an intern position.

It is not possible to apply generally according to areas of interest or for all offices/countries. Therefore, please limit your application to only one office/country per application e-mail. If you would like to apply for more than one office/country, please send a complete set of application documents for each office/country.
You can send as many applications as you want and of course you can apply again at a later date.
For organizational reasons, you should apply about 3 to 6 months before the intended period of your internship. Of course, you may also apply at a sooner or a later stage.
Even if shorter periods are generally possible, it is advisable that the internship lasts at least 2 months.
Applicants are not subject to any restriction of age, nationality, language skills in German or level of academic qualification! Anyone may apply who would like to gain a comprehensive insight into the professional field of development cooperation.
In line with the desire to afford a broad insight, we consider it to be particularly important that the internship takes place in a country other than the intern’s country of origin. This is essential to learn about the challenges of working in an international environment.

These are three challenging and varied roles providing support to three busy teams in UKREP: Competitiveness and Markets; Justice and Home Affairs; and Social and Environment policy teams. Harvard University: Knight Visiting Nieman Fellowships 2018 in U.S.A.

The Knight Visiting Nieman Fellowships at Harvard offer short-term research opportunities to individuals interested in working on special projects designed to advance journalism in some new way. Candidates need not be practising journalists but must demonstrate the ways in which their work at Harvard and the Nieman Foundation may improve the prospects for journalism’s future. This may be related to research, programming, design, financial strategies or another topic.
A Nieman Fellowship is an extraordinary, transformative learning opportunity open to journalists working in all media in every country around the world. Those selected for the program spend two full semesters at Harvard auditing classes with some of the university’s greatest thinkers, participating in Nieman events and collaborating with peers. Nieman Fellows are also able to audit classes at other local universities including MIT and Tufts.

The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship provides master’s and doctoral funding for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States to participate in educational, cultural, residential community building, and leadership development programs at the East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM). Undertaking degree studies at UHM through an East-West Center fellowship is not merely about receiving a financial aid scholarship. Since the basic purpose of the East-West Center is to build a sense of Asia-Pacific community and prepare for future leadership roles, EWC graduate student fellows live together and interact with each other in both intellectual and social activities. ARK Group DMCC is a stabilisation, development and conflict transformation consultancy that provide research-informed analysis and policy recommendations, as well as evidence-based interventions, in conflict-affected areas from the Palestinian camps of Lebanon and Yemen to Iraq and Syria on behalf of public and private sector clients. Working with and through local communities, we seek to understand and then mitigate the negative effects of conflict and instability to enhance community safety and promote human security, development and economic opportunity.
For the past six years, ARK has been at the forefront of the regional response to the Syrian conflict. Working for governmental donors, ARK has supported conflict-affected communities on the ground. Programmes have included sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) responses and launching the programme of life-saving support to Syria’s Civil Defence teams. We have a highly dynamic, capable, multinational team with offices in Dubai, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Washington DC.
ARK is seeking expressions of interest from candidates with the right blend of academic, linguistic, geographical and thematic expertise who are interested in joining ARK’s dynamic team as an Istanbul-based research intern. Tasks and Activities
• Provide research for analytical reports supporting ARK programmes in Syria.
• Contribute to stabilisation and development network mapping, social media analysis, narrative and summary reports and ARK programming outputs, as well as thematic situational reports, and other products designed to capture and visualise data.
• Brief company management on political and security trends in the area of interest and as needed represent ARK at conferences and donor-implementer meetings.

YOUNGO is the official youth constituency at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). YOUNGO is made up of organizations and individuals who identify as the youth it is not an organization, but, rather, a collection of groups and/or individuals.
In light of the barriers facing the participation of youth from the Global South, the GSS 2017 will provide the necessary financial resources to enable more young people to attend COY13 and COP23 who otherwise would not have the opportunity. Alongside covering the costs of their participation (travel, accommodation, food, etc), the GSS 2017 will also provide a robust capacity building program to empower Global South participation which is effective, rather than tokenistic.

Cosmopolis Advanced International MA/PhD Scholarships

The Institute for History is inviting applications for new research program: Cosmopolis Advanced, an initiative of the Institute for History at Leiden University (LU) in partnership with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta.
It offers a unique opening for advanced international students who aim for a Leiden PhD degree in the fields of Colonial & Global History or Archival & Postcolonial Studies.
The Leiden University was founded in 1575 and is one of Europe’s leading international research universities. It has seven faculties in the arts, sciences and social sciences spread over locations in Leiden and The Hague. The University has over 6,500 staff members and 26,900 students. The motto of the University is ‘Praesidium Libertatis’ – Bastion of Freedom.
The program intends to attract the most talented international students at the postmaster level. Eligible candidates should be able to demonstrate:
Excellence in archival/historical research, as evidenced by a master degree in history that includes a substantial research thesis of 30 ECTS or its equivalent. Candidates with an MA-degree in a language other than English must have certified proficiency at a minimal degree of 7.0 IELTS/ 100 TOEFL;
Sufficient financial support for all relevant costs (including for living and accommodation) either through the Cosmopolis scholarship program or private or external funding.
Throughout the program, Cosmopolis Advanced will actively recruit at least 10 students for the MA program based on a so-called Van Leur Scholarship (funded by Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, OC&W). The latter is specifically meant to stimulate research into the still most neglected VOC archives and the centuries’ old shared heritage it represents. After their selection by the scholarship committee, students will receive a scholarship for 18 months. For the Van Leur Scholarship, Leiden University waives the lion share (22.000 EUR) of the regular tuition fee of 25.000 EUR (for 18 months).
After the successful completion of the pilot-study, the Indonesian students compete for 5 Ph.D. positions (funded by UGM Indonesia). Students working on the VOC compete for 2 PhD-positions (funded by OC&W). Other students will compete for PhD-positions on the basis of external funding. For PhD-fellows, Leiden University will provide office space and the usual research facilities. In Indonesia, office space and research facilities will be provided by the Indonesian partners.
A scholarship committee with representatives from both partners is responsible for the selection process. LU and UGM are responsible for the practical organization of the selection process of the Van Leur and UGM scholarships respectively. The committee will take decisions on the basis of the recommendations of LU (for Van Leur Scholarships) and UGM (for UGM scholarships). After selection, the selected students become regular MA and PhD-students at LU and are subject to the usual regulations regarding the program in which they are enrolled.

University of Cambridge Scholarships 2018/2019 for Foreign Students

The Cambridge Trust is offering Cambridge International Scholarships to pursue PhD studies for 2018-2019 academic year.
The aim of the Cambridge International Scholarships is to ensure that the 250 highest ranked students, irrespective of nationality, receive full financial support to undertake research leading to a PhD. International students are eligible for these scholarships.
 United Kingdom
Approximately 85% of the scholarships awarded each year are to students taking Masters or PhD degrees.
These are guidelines on eligibility for scholarships that are available from the Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust:
Nationality: All students, irrespective of nationality, are eligible to be considered for funding by the Trust.
Status: The Trust does not accept applications from students who are part-way through a course at Cambridge, unless they are applying for funding towards a higher degree course following graduation.

Mexican Government Scholarships for International Students 2018

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) invites applications for the 2018 Mexican Government Scholarship Program for International Students. Foreign citizens who are interested in studying for a specialization, master’s degree or doctorate, conducting graduate or postdoctoral research, or taking part in an undergraduate or graduate-level academic mobility program, are welcome to participate in the Scholarship Program.
The scholarships are offered to more than 180 countries through a series of bilateral conventions, multilateral programs and special agreements.
